Fun Daze

I don’t know how all of May went by so fast, but in the blink of an eye it was already Memorial Day and time for the annual Pitlik Family Fun Daze celebration.  It was the 25th anniversary of the family (and friends) reunion at the farm this year.

In grand Fun Daze fashion, the weather had to make things interesting.  The day of the picnic started off with a storm that blew away (and destroyed) the tent that we had fled from after waking up to raindrops on our face.  Not my idea of happy camping.  We sought refuge in the big steel barn and waited out the rainstorm by watching the 65mph wind gusts take out a porta-potty that Jeff been inside 30 seconds earlier and whip lawn chairs like they were paper.  I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty scared and I was really glad the kids had gone in to town to sleep with Janet rather than try out camping.

The wild, wet morning made for a muddy afternoon but thankfully the rain cleared off so everyone was able to enjoy the day.   Here are the kids rocking their new rain boots Janet bought them to keep their feet dry.  They thought they were pretty stylin’ and Hallie was in HEAVEN.  Her favorite pastime is splashing in puddles and she was thrilled that she could do it without being told she was going to ruin her shoes :)

It got pretty nice out later in the day and the kids were able to get in some time on the slip-n-slide.  It has become kind of a yearly tradition so they had been looking forward to it!  Katie took some great pictures of them so click the collage if you want a closer look!

We had such a fun time in Iowa, especially the kids and I since we went a few days early with Katie.  Ben got to eat at his favorite restaurant The Golden Egg four days in a row (the way to that boy’s heart is french toast with cinnamon sugar) so I think he considers the trip a smashing success and I have to agree!

Love the slip n slide pics! Your kids are precious & it sounds like you had a great time...minus the storm! I would have totally been thinking of the movie Twister!
