At the beginning of this week I mentioned to Jeff that I thought our duck was sitting funny. It was SUPER hot out so I wasn’t sure if she was just trying to stay cool or if her ducklings had finally hatched and that is what had her sitting up out of the nest more than usual. I tried to peek in the nest on Monday and didn’t see anything but when we were out playing in the yard Tuesday evening, Jeff saw an eggshell on the ground and looked up in the next to see two baby ducklings! We think there were more than just two in there (judging from the amount of shells we have found on the ground, there were at least four and probably more) but mama duck was trying to keep them hidden and doing a pretty good job.
I barely managed to get these pics but I’m glad that I did because the next day when we woke up, mama and baby ducks were gone in search of a new home closer to the water.
