A few weekends ago, we traveled to Mankato to attend my sister-in-law Katie’s graduation from Mankato State. Congrats Katie! A huge storm was blowing into the state that weekend but luckily we all made it to the hotel before the real snow came. We ended up being pretty much snowed in for the weekend but we still had a great time.
We lucked out that the Sioux were playing Mankato that weekend. Katie, Chris, Jeff and I went to the hockey game Friday night while Janet and Art kept an eye on the kids for us (thanks guys)!
The next day we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the hotel restaurant since there was no way we were braving the storm to go anywhere else to eat! We did manage to make it out for the graduation which (kind of surprisingly) went ahead as scheduled. We also did a little swimming despite my forgetting to pack both of the kids swimsuits. Oops!! I packed EVERYTHING else for swimming: lifejackets, tons of toys, inflatable floaties and (thankfully) swim diapers. We decided to just put both of the kids in swim diapers and let them swim that way. Ben was pretty embarrassed but decided that he would rather swim in swim diaper than not at all.
I only managed one pic of the graduation but I know Katie has some really cute ones on her camera so maybe I will include those later. For now here are Katie and Janet celebrating at dinner, Jeff and the kids playing cards in the room, and my one not-so-great pic of the graduation.
The drive home Sunday was pretty dicey but we made it home in one piece. We had been watching the weather reports saying we had received about 14 inches of snow back home, so we were NOT looking forward to seeing the work mother nature had made for us in our driveway. But when we pulled up to our house two of our neighbors were in our driveway with their snowblowers going. BEST SURPRISE EVER! Its times like those when I’m thankful to live in this freezing tundra. It may be cold, but the people are great!
