I mentioned in the last post that we were starting some new Christmas traditions this year. One of them is Elf on the Shelf and the other is our tree skirt handprints. I was reading an article about Christmas traditions where someone said that they trace their kids hands on the back of the tree skirt every year so they can see how they’ve grown as the years go on. I thought it was such a cute idea and decided we had to make it a tradition of our own.
I bought some white fabric paint and Jeff & I helped the kids paint their hands and put their prints on the back of the tree skirt. The prints are a little messy this year but I am guessing they will get less sloppy as the years go on. :)
A close up of our hand-y work! As you can see, we had a little oops next to Hallie’s handprint but it adds character, right?
In other exciting Erdall news, today we had our first ever puppet show! The kids and I found some adorable (and inexpensive!) puppets while we were out shopping at Costco today. Ben has been talking about how much he likes the puppets his teacher uses at preschool so he was excited when I said he could choose a set of them to have at home. Ben chose the lizards and Hallie chose barnyard animals so we should have some pretty interesting shows in the future!
You simply can’t have a puppet show without a proper puppet theatre, so I headed to the garage to see what I could scrounge up to make one. Luckily we had a giant box tucked away and I found a few old placemats to use for curtains. A few minutes, some tape, some help from Jeff on the lettering, and a few staples later……..
Tada!
The kids had a blast with it and I have to admit, so did I! :)
