What DIDN’T we do in July?! We made a trip to minot (that’s nine hours people!), we celebrated the fourth of july (twice), we had a great visit with friends visiting from Seattle, I made a trip to Colorado to see James Taylor at Red Rocks, and we made a final trip to the cabin at Lake Mille Lacs to say goodbye. Whew.
We try to get to Minot to see my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins at least once a year. I do wish it was more often but nine hours in the car with two young kids is quite the adventure. This year we headed up the weekend before the 4th of July and got in some beach time at Lake Audubon and a nice visit in town with my grandparents.
Jeff gave quite a few rides to all the kids that day. And they spent the rest of the day playing on the raft and fighting each other with noodles. Princess Hallie did stop for a rest, as you can see.
The kids had fun seeing all their cousins from the Pross side at the lake and we got to see our cousins from the Fredrick side while we were in town visiting my grandparents. Aimee and her kids stopped by the house for a visit and then all the cousins had a blast swimming and water-sliding at an indoor water park. I spent a lot of time taking the kids down the slide so I didn’t get any pictures there – darn it! We did get some with my grandparents though.
Four generations!
We were so glad to see everyone and none of us was looking forward to the loooong trek home. We had broken the trip up by stopping in Fargo overnight on the way there but we had planned to drive the whole way back in one shot even though it might be tough. Our resolve was tested when 20 minutes into the trip the air conditioner went out. It was 90 degrees outside. We put on our bravest faces, rolled down the windows and kept on driving. 9 hours and many ice packs later, we made it home sweaty and exhausted. Ahh memories.
