Happy Halloween!

Halloween has become such a fun holiday again now that we have kids around to help us enjoy it.  This year, we saved our pumpkin carving until the day before Halloween so we had a fun weekend of going to the pumpkin patch, carving up our pumpkins and heading out trick or treating the next night.

Ben and Hallie were pretty into carving their pumpkins this year.  Since I don’t trust them to be wielding knives, they helped with picking the pumpkins out at the pumpkin patch and scooping them out before Jeff and I carved them.  Hallie picked a cute little pumpkin because she had her mind set on getting one that she could carry around herself.  She kept trying to lift all these huge pumpkins before I brought her one of the little pie pumpkins.  Ben picked a pumpkin and then spent the rest of the time finding things to hit with his sword (which he had insisted on bringing with).

The next night it was time for trick-or-treating.  Like we did last year, we just went to a few of our neighbors houses and then drove around town to see Katie and Chris, Great Grandma Jean, and then over to Jeff’s parents house.  Ben and Hallie got to help hand out some candy while we were over at Katie and Chris’s place and they both got a big kick out of that.  Maybe next year we will just stay home and hand out candy!

After much deliberation, Ben was a scary skeleton this year and Hallie was a bumble bee because I saw OCT10 100 the costume and just couldn’t resist!  Ben was pretty excited about his costume and whenever people would ask what he was going to be for Halloween he would say “A skeleton with a mask!!”  He wore the mask up to every house so everyone would get the full effect.  When our neighbor said “Oh a scary skeleton!” he lifted up his mask and said “Its okay, its just Ben under here!”  Its was so cute!  Ben led the way with saying “Trick-or-Treat!” and Hallie usually followed it up by thrusting out her bucket and yelling “Candy!!”.  She followed it up with a cute “thank you!” though so I figured her lack of Halloween manners was okay.  :)

Jeff and I dressed up with the kids last year and since they seemed to like it so much, we decided to make it a tradition.  This year Jeff was a serial killer (or actually a cereal killer) and I was Cinderella.  Hallie was totally loving her bee costume, but when I came down the stairs as Cinderella she looked down at herself and in a sad little voice said “princess too?”.  I guess next year we will have to be princesses together!
