A Trip to Como Zoo

We have visited the MN Zoo a few times but until today, we had not taken a trip to the other zoo in town.  Como Zoo has a new Polar Bear exhibit so we were excited to go and check them out along with monkeys, seals, penguins, lions, tigers and lots of other animal friends.

It was busy day at the zoo and parking spots were hard to come by.  We lucked out and saw a family heading to their car so we patiently waited with our blinker on for quite a few minutes imagewhile they got their wagon and kids loaded up.  When the car backed out, a woman came from the other direction and zoomed in and stole our spot!!!!  As Stephanie Tanner would say – How Rude!!  I honked the horn at her loud and long but she obviously had intentionally cheated us so she didn’t care.  The parking lot attendant saw the whole thing and even went over there and told her to move but she just yelled at him.  We circled back around and I rolled down Jeff’s window (he was driving) and did yell at the lady who was a passenger in the car since she was the only one out of the car at that point.  Since the kids were in the car, I didn’t yell too much but I did tell her it was super rude and that I hoped it was worth it.  Jerks!!

After our blood was boiling from the parking fiasco we headed into the zoo to forget those “bad people” (as Ben called them) and enjoy the day.

The Como Zoo is a free zoo and just suggests that you make a donation rather than pay admission.  Because of this, I wasn’t really expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised at how many animals they had there and they also have a pretty big carnival area with rides, games and a fun splash park.  It was a really hot day again today and the kids only had a few hours before they would need to get home for naps so for today we just visited the animals but Next time we go, we will definitely have to plan more time so we can enjoy all the other things too.

We  were able to catch the seal show which both of the kids loved.  Before the show, Hallie really loved looking at the seals in their little waiting tank.  They were coming right up to the glass which she thought was pretty cool.  Here she is being one of “those kids” and knocking on the tank:

After the seal show, the kids were hot and sweaty so we picked up some overpriced Zoo lemonades (including your very own take-home water bottle!) and had them hop in the stroller for some shade.

Here are a few of the kids favorite animals of the day.  Ben always likes me to take pictures so he can look at them later.  I wanted to get pics of the polar bears for him too but it was super crowed in there so Jeff and I were both busy holding the kids up so they could see.  Maybe next time!

Here are a few more pics – one more of Hallie at the zoo, a few from yesterday, and one of Ben tonight with his awesome new tattoo!

Pretty good for a free zoo! Have you seen the Fargo Zoo? It's a disgrace to our state.

Stacie - the kids and I actually went to the Fargo zoo with my parents last time we were in town. I have to admit their selection of animals was a bit sad! The kids had fun anyway though. :)

Tiffany...next time take the shuttle from the state fair parking lot. We had our work picnin at the zoo a couple weekends ago and someone told us to do that. I was so glad we did that. They drop you right by the conservatory. No crazy parking lots to navigate!

The kids are cute as ever and it looks like they had a great time!
